Paul Rusesabagina argued before the Rwandan Court that his kidnapping meant the court could not try him. In spite of international laws, The Rwandan Court ruled: “The Chamber does not find it relevant to talk about how he was arrested or detained.”

The American Bar Association released a preliminary report in the proceedings against Paul Rusesabagina. TrialWatch Expert, Geoffrey Robertson QC said, “The Clooney/ABA group agreed in September to monitor Paul’s case, and they generally only take on cases where a fair trial is in question.”
Rusesabagina’s Trial Delayed & Lawyers Denied Amid Legal Irregularities & COVID Worries
The trial of Paul Rusesabagina has been delayed from its original start date of January 26 to February 17. He remains limited access to his Rwanda attorney and no access to his international legal team. Rusesabagina’s case has also been joined to the cases of nineteen other defendants.

Rusesabagina Trial Delayed, Lawyers Ask for Remedy for Violation of Rights
The legal team of renowned humanitarian Paul Rusesabagina filed a motion with the Registry of The High Court Chamber for International Crimes (HCCIC). The motion details the circumstances of Rusesabagina’s kidnapping, illegal arrest and interrogation, and prevention of his meeting with his attorneys of choice.

Fears grow for the safety and well being of renowned humanitarian Paul Rusesabagina, who was kidnapped in August 2020 and remained in illegal detention by Rwandan authorities since. Rusesabagina is facing an imminent health crisis; his high blood pressure has gotten so bad that he fears he will have a stroke.

Officials from the United Nation sent letters to the Rwanda Ambassador in Geneva and to the Rwanda government in Kigaili, in regards to the kidnapping and illegal detention of humanitarian Paul Rusesabagina. The letters include a request for clarification on the events on behalf of mandates provided by the Human Rights Council.
